Huchuy Qosqo

Huchuy Qosqo means in Quechua Little Cusco, and is an ancient Inca archaeological site. The trek is a great day trekking in the mountains of the sacred valley of Inca´s with stunning views over the Sacred Valley. The Huchuy Qosqo hike departs from Chinchero or Tambomachay. We cross the highest pass at 4300 meters and pass Andean communities to get to this special and unknown site.

OPTIONAL: On the second day after hiking for several hours we take the train to Machu Picchu, where we will spend the complete third day to explore.

Full Itinerary


CUSCO (3400m) – TAMBOMACHAY (3800m) – PUMAMARCA (4010m)
We pick you up from your hotel in Cusco early in the morning and drive to Tambomachay (3800m), an archaeological complex situated in the Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Park. We start the hike at this point, and will continue through puna landscapes and over the Sicllaccasa pass at 4020m. After the pass we continue downhill to the Ccauca ravine, where we encounter archaeological remains and wild crops, such as tarwi, and a large quantity of cacti. We continue ascending to the Queullococha pass at 4185m, where we may enjoy great views over the mountains of the area; Veronica, Pitusiray, Chicon and San Juan snow peaks. We continue ascending to our lunch stop at the pas sof Rumicruz at 4230m. After lunch we continue hiking going downhill to the community of Pumamarca where we sill set up our camp for the night.


We leave our camp early in the morning and walk downhill towards the Leon Punku ravine, where we find remains of an Inca bridge and trail. From here we continue to the Inca site of Huchuy Qosqo. Huchuy Qosqo is an Inca archaeological complex with imposing architecture that includes a large open ceremonial center, from which we enjoy a panoramic view of the Sacred Valley, the Vilcanota River, and the snow capped mountain range of the same name. After a guided visit of the remains of Huchuy Qosqo we descend to the village of Lamay at 3000m. Here our transport will be waiting for us to take us back to Cusco.

OPTIONAL: Today you can take the train to Machu Picchu, where we will spend the complete third day to explore.
